Description of project environment, activities and target group

The points below are intended to serve as a guide for your description of proposed activities. Please present your information in the sections on the following page.

A. Project environment:

• Please present briefly the philosophy and regular activities of the host organisation. Add information about the staff, volunteers and/or members of your organisation as well as target group of the activities.
• Outline the project environment for the suggested voluntary activities, including the local community where the project will take place (e.g. geographical, social and economical environment).
• If you have, please describe your experience with YOUTH/EVS, volunteering and/or voluntary service.
• If the host placement is located in a live-in community, please include the rules and conditions that apply also for the volunteer.

B. Proposed activities for international volunteers

• Please summarise the motivation of your organisation to host international volunteers.

Every issue of the Queesch grows up from an exchange of ideas and experiences of the team members and everybody who wishes to contribute, so it is vital for us to have a possibility to meet people coming from different backgrounds who might share their experiences and opinions. We find it essential for the development of the magazine.

The Queesch magazine is run by local activists working voluntarily. It is supposed to be a medium for everybody who whishes to express his/her ideas on a certain political/social/cultural topic. Our aim is to attract as many youngsters as possible to contribute to the building up and the development of the Queesch. This style of working requires a good coordination and a lot of engagement to be efficient. As we all are working also on other projects in the same time, we started to feel a need to have somebody who would help us doing the administrative part of our job, such as collecting articles, reminding people of deadlines and meetings, sending out new issues to the subscribers, managing the re-sellers, etc. Helping us doing this would contribute a lot to the stabilization of our project.

We are also always interested in new people and groups sending their contribution to the Queesch, so it would be ideal if the volunteer was able to attract new people, find new contacts at schools, etc. One of the project that some of us are also engaged in is called A-Teams and its idea is to find in every school a group of people that would like to get engaged in social actions. The volunteer’s task would be to keep in contact with these groups and encourage them to contribute to the magazine.

• Describe what you can offer to volunteers in terms of service and learning opportunities. Explain what will be the role of international volunteers in the host organisation.

The international volunteer will be a part of our team. He/she will have the full right of and will be encouraged to contribute to the development of the magazine, giving her/his ideas about the leading theme and the content of every new issue. She/he will be in close contact with the coordinator and other members of the team and can be sure of their support. On the other hand we also expect the volunteer to be able to organize his/her work independently.

She/he will be offered an opportunity to learn multimedia skills, such as film cutting, making her/his own radio formats, making films, learning graphic and editorial programs.

She/he will be given an office, a computer, telephone, etc.

• Describe the activities in which the volunteers could be involved and the activities the volunteers could create in your organisation. Give examples of typical activities for the volunteers.

Creative activities:

• discussing ideas and topics for the new issues of the Queech,
• participating in the organization of the promotion festivals, giving ideas to the festivals
• writing articles, making photos, cutting films, making radio formats and other forms of expression/contribution

Administrative activities:

• sending out reminders of the deadlines and of the meetings
• sending out new Queesch’es to the subscribers and to the media
• managing the re-sellers: making sure that they get the new numbers in time, collecting money from them keeping the place where the magazines are stored in order, so that it’s easy to find every number

Creating new activities:

• opening and sustaining contacts with groups and individuals that wish to contribute to the magazine, sending them invitations to participation, making presentations at schools
• attracting new re-sellers and subscribers

This part of the tasks is very welcomed but will depend mostly on the volunteer’s engagement.

C. Target group

This information can help the match-making between volunteer candidates, sending organisations and your organisation.

D. Special needs (if applicable)

If your projects are open to hosting volunteers with fewer opportunities (i.e. facing educational, social, economical, cultural or geographical obstacles and/or to disabled volunteers), please provide information about the competence, experience and infrastructure and (human or other) resources available in your organisation to accommodate and support them. Please note that hosting volunteers with special needs can refer both to short-term and long-term placements.
